EdgeEX — Customizing vs. bypassing content

There are two ways to allow a student to skip content in EdgeEX courses: customizing content out of a course or bypassing the content. The difference between these the functions is based on your intent: do you want to remove content from a student’s course permanently or simply let students skip over it temporarily (with the expectation that they will complete it later)?

Customizing content out removes the content permanently from the course.

Bypassing content does not remove the content; it simply lets students temporarily skip over it without penalty.

Customize content out if..

  • You never want students to do that content
  • You don’t want students to be able to access the content at all
  • You don't want the content to count toward student’s course grade

Bypass content if...

  • You just want students to be able to skip over the content if they choose to do so
  • You still expect students to complete the content as part of the course
  • You do want the content to count toward student’s course grade

 Additional things to consider

  • If you don’t want students to be able to access content now, but you do want them to do the content at a later time, you can choose to customize content out and then customize it back in at a later time.
  • When you customize content out of an EdgeEX course, the student will reach 100% progress if they complete all the remaining content. However, if you bypass content, the student will not reach 100% progress if they do not complete the bypassed content.
