For example, if you're customizing a section, here's what it looks like:

Common scenarios for customizing courses for a section
Most of the time, a section will have the same course structure as the course in the School Catalog. That is, in most cases, all sections are customized in the same way. However, there are several scenarios in which sections of the same course might have different customizations, including exam-only sections and sections created for a particular marking period.
Choose one of the following to learn how to customize a section to fit your needs:
In heritage Imagine Edgenuity, educators can create exam-only courses from the Manage Courses page. In EdgeEX, you can create an exam-only section for either semester using customization.
When creating an exam-only section, you can:
- Hide all the content from the course structure except for the exam (and the practice exam, if you wish).
- When asked whether you want to include the hidden content in tests and exams, select all the content you want assessed (you can select it all, or you can choose specific units or lessons to be included in the exam).
To create an exam-only section, complete the following steps:
- Create a new section from the School Catalog.
- Once the section is created, customize the section using the steps in Customizing a course for a section below.
In heritage Imagine Edgenuity, educators can create copies of courses for each marking period (for example, first nine weeks, quarter 1). In EdgeEX, you can create a section for a particular marking period using customization. (Later in 2024, you will also be able to add additional splits to a course, so that you can create multiple sections for a given marking period more easily.)
When creating a section for a marking period that is smaller than a semester, you can:
- Create two sections for each semester (or more, if there are more marking periods per semester).
- Hide the second half of the course structure in the section for Marking Period 1.
- Hide the first half of the course structure in the section for Marking Period 2.
- If you wish to include an exam in the second marking period that assesses the entire semester, you can do so by opting to assess hidden content in the section for Marking Period 2.
Note
You do not need to customize sections for a semester; simply assign the already-created semester version of the course to the section when you create it.
To create a section for a marking period, complete the following steps:
- Create a new section from the School Catalog.
- Once the section is created, customize the section using the steps in Customizing a course for a section below.
Customizing a course for a section

Tips
- You can also use keyboard shortcuts (CTRL+Z on a PC, CMD+Z on a Mac) to undo a change.
- To undo all changes, click the X at the top-right of the page.
On the Discard Changes window that displays; click Confirm.
- At the top-right of the page, click Publish.

- If you are creating an exam-only course, select the Check All button to include all the content you have hidden in Tests and Exams. (Or, if you prefer to only assess certain lessons, you can leave lessons you do not want assessed unchecked here. This is a good way to assess only power standards or other essential content.)
- Determine how you want to apply the changes to enrollments and select or deselect the radio button. Then click Next.
- Review the grade weights and make any changes; then click Apply.
Note
If you are creating an exam-only section, adjust the grade weights so that the exam is weighted 100%.
- A confirmation page displays; click Done.
