EdgeEX — Getting started for administrators

This article provides best practices for getting started with EdgeEX, either for the first time or at the beginning of a new school year. Because there are multiple ways to customize courses for districts, schools, sections, and enrollments, it's important to do these tasks in a specific order so that you can have the best experience with EdgeEX.

 Permission

To perform administrator tasks, you must have the applicable permissions. For a list of EdgeEX permissions, reference EdgeEX — Permissions. To check your permissions, reference Checking your educator permissions.

For each course that you added, you now have 3 versions in your catalog (unless your course is a single semester course):

  • Year
  • Semester A
  • Semester B

6

If you want to customize course content, access the content tab on the Course Hub of the version of the course you want to change and customize it.

Examples of customizations include:

  • Adding splits (if you want to use quarters or trimesters rather than semesters)
  • Rearranging content
  • Hiding content
  • Adding activities, including educator-created activities
  • Creating an exam-only course

Changes made at the district level are applied to the course in each of your School Catalogs. If you are making customizations that you want to be district-wide, it is important that you do this before adding courses to schools.

If you want to further customize the course options of a single course beyond the district-level customizations you made in step 2, you can do it now.
