Frequently asked questions
Overview
Traditionally, courses are offered to students in a sequential learning model, but there are times that a course or enrollment needs to be opened up to allow a student to jump straight to a particular activity. Free Movement allows a student to launch activities and the pages within activities out of order.
Note
With this option enabled, students can freely click on any activity, but they will still be required to watch videos in their entirety for them to count as progress towards course completion.
EdgeEx courses always have Free Movement turned off by default. However, it can be turned on for a course, section, or individual enrollment. The Free Movement settings can be changed at any time.
Free movement options
The free movement options are as follows:
Option | Description | Default | Availability |
---|---|---|---|
Allow students to move freely in course |
Just like in heritage courses, this setting allows students to work on activities in a course out of order. However, it also allows students to move freely within an activity, which is new to EdgeEX. This means students can launch any activity without having completed the previous activities in the course. They can go to any page within the activity without having completed the previous pages in the activity. |
Defaults to Off. | EdgeEX and heritage courses |
Allow students to increase video playback speed |
This setting allows students to increase the video playback speed to 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, or 2x. However, it does not change the requirement that students must play the entire video to complete the page. Note The setting is not persistent from one video to the next; each new video that loads will load at the video playback speed of 1x. Also, this setting cannot be applied to the reteaching "Show Me" videos within assignments; they cannot be watched at a speed faster than 1x. |
Defaults to Off. | EdgeEX courses only |
