Use this article to create a new version of a course in the District Catalog (also called copying a course).
The Create New Version (copy course) feature allows district administrators to create a new independent reusable course from an existing course in the District Catalog. The copy course feature is designed for cases where two or more reusable versions of the same course need to remain different over time. Each copy becomes its own reusable parent course, and sections can be created from each version independently.
The copied course remains in the same course card in the catalog (for example, English Language Arts 6) has the same and implementation model (for example, Credit Recovery) as its source. Because each course version is independet, changes made after the new version is created will not be shared. In other words, after a copy is made, if changes are needed to both the original and the copy, the changes must be made in both places.
The copied course inherits the source course’s current state at the time of copying, including:
- Current content customizations.
- Current course options.
If the district needs a copy that does not inherit the source course’s current customizations and options, contact your CSM.
Frequently asked questions
Before you begin
- Review the source course carefully.
- Decide what content and course options the new version should share with the existing version. Because the copy inherits the source course as it currently exists, completing shared customization before copying can reduce repeated work.
