Use this article to learn about adding new versions of EdgeEX courses. New versions are different from new editions. To learn more about new editions, reference Understanding EdgeEX course terminology and EdgeEX — Adopting a new edition of a course.
When Imagine Edgenuity publishes another related version of a course that the district already has in your catalog, an alert displays at the top of the course card in the District Catalog. You can view and add the newly available version directly from the alert.
Adding a version from the alert:
- Adds it to the District Catalog.
- Does not automatically add it to any School Catalog.
- Does not replace an existing version.
- Does not automatically archive another version.
When will a new version alert display?
Here are two examples of when you'll see a new version alert:
- New implementation model: Sometimes a district adds a course to their District Catalog before all the versions or implementation models are published by Imagine Edgenuity. For example, in some states, a course may be initially published with only an IC and CR course version. Later, when the state releases standards for an HON course, Imagine Edgenuity publishes a new course version, and the new version alert displays.
- New state-specific version: A district may start off using a national version of a course. Later, due to changing state standards, Imagine Edgenuity may publish a state-specific version of that course. When the new version of the course is published by Imagine Edgenuity, you'll see an alert on the related course card in the District Catalog.
Frequently asked questions
How is a version different from an edition?
Reference Understanding EdgeEX course terminology.
What happens when Imagine Edgenuity publishes another related version?
The District Catalog displays an alert identifying the newly available version. A permissioned user can add the new version directly from the alert.
Does adding from the alert replace the current version?
No. Both versions exist on the course card.
Does a version added from the alert automatically go to schools?
No. It is added to the District Catalog only.
Why did an alert appear for a version the district previously archived?
An archived Imagine Edgenuity-published base version, such as an IC, CR, or HON version, can still trigger the new-version alert. The district may therefore see an alert for a version it previously archived.
