Use this article to learn about adopting new editions of EdgeEX courses.
Caution
Adopting a new edition of a course is an action that cannot be undone. If you update a course to the latest edition:
- It will update the course in your District Catalog and all School Catalogs that have this course.
- Any new sections you create will be from the latest edition. You cannot create new sections from a previous edition.
- It won't include any customizations from the previous edition. You'll need to re-customize the new edition of the course.
New editions are updated versions of existing EdgeEX courses. A new edition may include structural course updates such as added or removed lessons, updated alignment, revised content, or other significant course changes. New editions allow districts to decide when they want to adopt major course updates while maintaining visibility into the editions they are currently using.
New Editions may include:
- Updated standards alignment
- Changes required by state regulations or legislation
- Added or removed lessons
- Structural changes to the course
- Updated pacing recommendations
- Other significant instructional updates
Courses are versioned using edition numbers. Each new release becomes the newest available version. Adoption of a new edition is available until a newer edition replaces it.
Example
- Edition 0: Original edition
- Edition 1
- Edition 2
- Edition 3: Latest edition
New editions allow Imagine Learning to release new editions of courses aligned to the latest standards and regulatory changes while continuing to give districts control over when they begin to use the new courses.
Frequently asked questions
A new edition may not have been published yet. Some other possible reasons include:
- The course is already on the newest edition.
- The edition has not yet been released to the course.
- You don't have the necessary permission to view new editions.
Only the most recent edition is available for adoption. For example, if a district is on Edition 0 and Editions 1 and 2 have been released, the district can:
- Stay on Edition 0, or
- Adopt Edition 2.
The district cannot adopt Edition 1 after Edition 2 has become the newest available edition.
