EdgeEX courses have many powerful features. Imagine Learning publishes them with a full complement of content, activities, and assessments. We provide them in a few implementation models — such as Initial Credit (IC), Credit Recovery (CR), and often Honors (HON). You may wish to have multiple versions of a course available to enroll students at various times of the school year. In this article, we will explain what some of these terms mean, and how you might encounter them in the system.

Implementation Model
An implementation model identifies the instructional model a course uses.
Common implementation models include:
- IC — Initial Credit
- CR — Credit Recovery
- HON — Honors
Imagine Learning defines the implementation models available to each state. Customers cannot create new implementation models.
When you copy a version of a course, the new version inherits the same implementation model as the version it was copied from (IC, CR, HON).
For example, Algebra I may have all three models:
- Algebra I — IC
- Algebra I — CR
- Algebra I — HON
Note
If the district copies Algebra I — IC, the new course will also be an IC course. Copying it does not create a new implementation model.
Version
A version is a distinct, reusable course. In the EdgeEX catalogs, like-courses are grouped together under one course grouping such as “Algebra I”.
EdgeEX is currently piloting a course copy feature that allows customers to copy their existing courses to make new independent versions. To learn more about course copies and if your district is a good candidate for our pilot, contact your Customer Success Manager. When you copy a version, the new version inherits the same implementation model as the version it was copied from.
For example:
- A district might start with: Algebra I — IC
- The district could copy that course to create: Algebra I Summer School — IC
These are two different versions of Algebra I, but both use the same IC implementation model.
Edition
An edition identifies a significant Imagine Learning-published revision of a course.
- New editions are created for larger curriculum updates, such as standards changes, regulatory requirements, added or removed lessons, or significant structural revisions. Editions are numbered, such as Edition 0, Edition 1, and Edition 2.
- A course is associated with an edition, and districts can choose whether and when to adopt a newer available edition. For example, a district might currently use: Algebra I — IC — Edition 2
- An older section created previously might still be associated with Edition 1, while new sections are created from the district's currently adopted edition. Reference Adopting a new edition of a course for additional information.
What Can You Do with Courses?
- Archive/Unarchive – this functionality will be released later in 2026.
- Copy – work with your Customer Success Manager to Copy Courses.
- Customize – you can customize any course to meet your specific needs.
