Setting Free Movement

This feature allows a student to jump around to any activity within the course's structure. Traditionally, the courses are offered to students in a sequential learning model, but there are times that a course or enrollment needs to be opened up to allow a student to jump straight to the cumulative exam. There are also some implementations that may use our Imagine Edgenuity for supplemental learning. In instances like these, we encourage enabling the free movement feature.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Will I still see alerts on the Dashboard for Teacher Review if Free Movement is enabled?
No. You will need to search the student's gradebook for the assessment to unlock, or you can disable Teacher Review to prevent students from getting stopped. The Dashboard tracks the student's current assignment on the gradebook and will send an alert to the teacher when an assessment needs to be unlocked. However, since Free Movement allows the student to freely move in the course structure, the system cannot determine the student's next activity.
If you have Free Movement turned on for a course, you will need to be very attentive to keep track of student progress. We recommend monitoring the Gradebook each day and paying close attention to the progress percentage.
Are students allowed to jump around in the course, or are they always forced to complete work in sequential order?
The contents within an activity must be completed in sequential order the first time through, but they can navigate to any lesson or activity in the course at any time. Students are still required to watch instructional videos in their entirety for them to count as progress towards course completion, so they cannot fast forward.
Once enabled, how would a student navigate to other activities in his/her course?
From the Course Map, a student would select the activity s/he wants to complete.
