Definitions
- Quiz/Test/Exam: The object that a student does the actual work and takes the assessment.
- Question Bank: Repository of questions that a teacher can use to build out assessments. Our assessments come into the Quiz section as banks by default.
- Question Groups: Group of questions pulled from our Question Banks that populate Canvas quizzes.
Importing QTI-enabled TCCs into Canvas
Note
The following process is nearly identical to the import process for non-QTI TCC files in Edgenuity.
- In a Canvas course, on the left navigation, click Settings, then click Import Course Content.
- On the Import Content screen, complete the following fields, then click Import:
Field Action Content Type Select Common Cartridge 1.x Package. Source Click Choose File and select your TCC file. Default Question Bank Choose a question bank, create a new one, or leave it blank.
Optional: Select Create new question bank, then give it a name using the second box in this field.
If you are going to create Cumulative Exams using a question bank you must first import the TCC file to the course as a Question Bank.
Content Select the radio button next to the applicable option. Options Leave the boxes unchecked. Note
QTI files can take up to 15 minutes to load due to the complexity of the files.
Once you import the file and choose your lessons/unit, standard videos display in the Modules section. Assessments display in the Quizzes section.
- Once the file uploads, on the left navigation, click Quizzes. All of the assessments display here (not in the Modules section. You will use Imagine Edgenuity assessments here instead of copying Module links to Assignments).
- Click a Quiz to edit its options.
- Add questions to the Quiz:
Adding Quiz questions using Question Groups (recommended)
- Once you have opened a Quiz, click Edit. You can add or remove questions. You can also create quizzes from scratch and add questions to them.
- Click the Questions tab.
- Click Find Questions.
- On the left navigation, select a Question Bank, then scroll down.
- Click Create Group.
- In the pop-up, give the group a name, how many questions to pick from the TCC file default quiz, and the number of points per question.
Note
Best practice is to name the group the same as the bank, create the group, and then delete the bank.
You can also preview the question banks by clicking View Course Question Banks.
- Click Create Group, then click Add Questions.
- The questions arrive in the source Quiz. The Quiz now states it will pick 10 questions from the Quiz Group.
- Preview the Quiz to see how students will experience it.
Manually creating Quiz questions (not recommended)
When an assessment is added to Quizzes, all questions are brought in by default. This means that if a quiz has 24 questions, if you leave the quiz as-is, students will have to answer all 24 questions.
Educators can edit and remove questions before publishing the quiz, but it is a time-consuming process because of the number of questions (over 1,000).
- Once you have opened a Quiz, click Edit. You can add or remove questions. You can also create quizzes from scratch and add questions to them.
- Click the Questions tab.
- Click Find Questions.
- Access the Quiz subject with the questions you want, then select the applicable questions.
- Use the inside scrollbar on the right to scroll down, then click Add Questions.
Creating Cumulative Exams using Question Banks
While the actions documented above work fine for Quizzes, Cumulative Exams require something a bit easier. Our Cumulative Exams can have over 1000 questions in them. The best method for these assessments is to reference a Question Bank from the Canvas Quiz itself. Before you can do this, however, the TCC file needs to be imported into the course as a question bank. If you plan on using our content for Cumulative Exams, you should include this piece in their process.
- When you are importing the TCC file, add the Cumulative Exam to a Question Group or add a new one.
- Once the TCC file is updated, create a new Quiz: Click Quizzes on the left navigation, then click the Quiz button at the top-right.
- On the Questions tab, click New Question Group.
- Give the Question Group a name, input the desired numbers in the questions and pts per question boxes, and click Link to a Question Bank.
- On the Find Question Bank screen, select the Cumulative Exam that you imported.
- A note displays indicating that questions will be pulled from the bank that you selected. Click Create Group.
Success
The questions will pull in automatically from the main Question Bank, reflecting the number of questions you selected and the correct point value.
