The Attendance Log has been updated for Back to School 2026. There is now a single Attendance Log and Session Log that reports on students with both heritage Imagine Edgenuity courses and EdgeEX courses in a single report. Use this article to review what's new and different in the:
Attendance Log
This section describes the differences between the new combined reports and the previous reports. To learn more about the new combined report, reference Attendance Log overview.
| New combined report | Heritage report | EdgeEX report | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student data |
All enrollment data for heritage classes and EdgeEX sections is combined into a single view, removing the need to open separate reports. The new log includes students whose home school or secondary school is the selected school and incorporates attendance data from all their enrollments. The daily data represents total session time, grouped by each session throughout the day. |
Educators see students whose home school or secondary school matches the selected school, including students who haven't logged in. This data included any work in courses assigned to those students. The report showed attendance data from heritage courses and shows attendance data from EdgeEX sections as idle time.
|
Educators see students whose home or secondary school matches the selected school and any EdgeEX attendance data from sections they work in. This version only displays attendance data from EdgeEX enrollments and filters the list to show only students who had active time. |
| Assessment counts |
All assessments submitted, regardless of outcome, are displayed. This provides clearer understanding of how students spend their time. For example, if a student who has multiple quiz attempts spends an hour on a difficult lesson, they might fail a quiz, review the content, and then retake and pass the quiz. In the previous logs, this scenario appears as one quiz, which can suggest the student spent an hour on a single assessment. In the new log, this appears as two quizzes, more accurately representing that the student invested time in mastering the content through multiple attempts. |
Assessment counts reflected only completed and passed assessments. | Assessment counts reflected only completed and passed assessments. |
| Export |
Exporting to CSV is available and has been moved to the top of the page, making it easier to find. The export now includes:
|
The Export to CSV button is located at the bottom of the page. The export includes:
|
The EdgeEX Attendance Log does not include an export option. |
| Sorting data |
Sorting by student name is supported and works across the full dataset, including rows not currently visible on screen. If you need to sort by specific days or other columns, we recommend exporting to CSV and use sorting and filtering within the spreadsheet. |
There are no sorting options. | Each column can be sorted. However, the sorting only applies to the data currently visible on the page, which can be confusing and misleading. |
| Academic integrity |
Educators see a red alert icon automatically when Speed Radar detects students completing activities faster than expected. There is no need to toggle Speed Radar on or off. These alerts were not included in the heritage printable version, nor are they included in the new version printable version. |
Speed Radar appears as red highlighting in the day’s box when the feature is toggled on. | This feature has not been available in the EdgeEX Attendance Log. |
| Student filter |
There is a single search field that searches by last name. Limiting the query to last name prevents performance issues now that this one report holds significantly more data. Educators can type a single letter to return all students whose last name begins with that letter, which replaces the functionality of the alphabet bar on the heritage report. |
Attendance Log, educators can filter students by typing first name, last name, user ID, or username into search boxes. For example, entering a last name will filter the log to show all students with that name and highlight the search term. Educators also have an alphabet bar across the top that filters the list by the first letter of the student’s last name. |
Educators search for students through a drop-down field that supports first name, last name, user ID, username, middle name, or external ID. This filters the options within the dropdown so a single student is selected. |
| Course and section filter |
The filter supports both heritage courses and EdgeEX sections. Selecting from the drop-down menu initially shows courses and sections you have access to, and typing in the field filters the results. Educators can select one or multiple courses or sections to display attendance data for any of those linked enrollments. |
The heritage Attendance Log does not provide a way to filter by the course linked to an enrollment. |
Educators use a sections drop-down menu that shows all sections. Typing in the field begins filtering the list, and users can select one or multiple sections. Any enrollments in those sections display once filtered. |
| Date filter | The date filter includes both a text box and calendar widget. It continues to filter attendance data from the preceding Sunday through the following Saturday. | The date filter is a text box. When a date is entered, the Attendance Log displays data from the preceding Sunday through the following Saturday. |
A text box for the date is available, but there is also a calendar widget that makes it easier to navigate to previous weeks, months, or years. When a date is entered or selected, the Attendance Log displays data from the preceding Sunday through the following Saturday. |
| Group filter |
Groups are user-specific and are not visible to any other user. A Groups filter is available and works similarly to the other filters. Educators can type a group name in the drop-down menu to filter the list and select one or many groups. |
Educators can filter data by their specific groups. | The EdgeEX Attendance Log does not include a group filter. |
| Classes filter |
Classes are similar to groups, however, they can be shared with other educators. The Classes filter remains unchanged in the new version. Educators can type in the field and filter by one or more classes using a drop-down menu.

| Impersonation behavior (staff only) |
Previously, when staff or support users impersonated a student and completed coursework, the activity displayed in the student’s Attendance Log and Session Log alongside the student’s own data. In the new Attendance Log, work completed while impersonating a student does not generate attendance data and will not appear in the report. Important note: Work completed while impersonating is still reflected in the student's gradebook, and any scores earned are still included in grade calculations. This change helps ensure that attendance time and assessment counts reflect only the student’s actual work. When testing or troubleshooting while impersonating a student, staff should not expect to see that activity included in attendance metrics. |

| Historical data |
With this release, some behind-the-scenes work was required to show data from both heritage and EdgeEX together on the Attendance Log since time calculations sometimes varied. However, to preserve any exports or reports educators may already rely on, we did not change historical data. Beginning May 1, 2026, all time metrics use consistent calculations between heritage and EdgeEX. Educators can view data from before May 1 upon request using a form linked at the top of the report. |

Session Log
This section describes the differences between the new combined reports and the previous reports. To learn more about the new combined report, reference Session Log overview.
| New combined report | Heritage report | EdgeEX report | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student data |
All enrollment data for heritage classes and EdgeEX sections is combined into a single view, removing the need to open separate reports. This includes enrollments from the selected school and any secondary enrollments assigned from any other schools within the district. |
The heritage Session Log only shows data from heritage courses and any work the student completes in EdgeEX courses is counted and displayed as idle time. | The EdgeEX Session Log only displays data from EdgeEX enrollments. |
| Printing |
Printing as a PDF is available and includes:
|
A print button is located at the top of the page. It creates a PDF version of the session log, exactly as it appears on screen. | The EdgeEX Session Log does not include a print option. |
| Academic integrity |

| Impersonation behavior (staff only) | In the previous experience, work completed while impersonating a student was recorded in the Session Log and could appear similar to the student’s own sessions. In the new Session Log, activity performed while impersonating a student does not create session entries and will not appear in the student’s session history. Important note: Work completed while impersonating is still reflected in the student's gradebook, and any scores earned are still included in grade calculations. This update keeps the Session Log focused on a student’s genuine logins and work. For testing or troubleshooting, staff should use impersonation only to observe the experience, not to generate attendance or session data. | ||
